Indoor in sunlight
Damn, damn, damn. A sunny day, spent almost totally indoors; exept for one little dip in the sea. Why? Because of a crappy computer, or more exactly, because of a crappy service centre.
In january this year our graphics card collapsed. I could of course just have bought a new cart directly, but that would be very unnecessary since there still were warranty on the crappy box. A little call and they collected the computer, kept it for too long time (3 weeks) and then came back with it. Opening the box to see what the had done I became quite happy. A completely new graphics card, yay! But the happiness of mine was not to be prolonged.
After installing the first game (yes, the had deleted every single file on the computer, those bastards), I soon realised that the graphics card wasn't working as it should. After a few minutes of gaming the computer crashed. I tried again, and again, and again... Still the same f***ng error. Still warranty, so I called the support team again to have the graphics card changed. Three more weeks and then we got the same shit sent home again. Not working, aargh! To make it live a bit longer I installed some modified drivers, and changed some BIOS-values. Just as expected it worked a bit longer. Up to an hour actually. But what could the problem be? Probably hardware incompability according to me, so I sought for an update to the crappy Spider-D motherboard installed in the computer. But wait, compaq doesn't exist anymore, nor does any updates. HELL! (not that I bougth a Compaq computer by my own will, it was my mother who got an offer through work).
Nothing left to do, nothing at all! So again, call up the support and wait...
This is merely one of the reasons to buy a console instead of a computer as a gaming device. With a console you never need to care about drivers, hardware problems e.t.c. Surely, if you are rich, you can buy the parts that you want and upgrade every week. But for us who havn't got that kind of money, a console is without doubt the best choise. Many games, optimized for the device, many GOOD games. And - the next generation of consoles will be able to produce graphics with so high quality it will satisfy even the most fastidious person.
